My name is Sheryl, and I am a single mother. Until I stumbled upon SmartFit, I was constantly tired, depressed, and completely unmotivated in every aspect of my life. I was significantly over-weight, suffered from injuries, and physically unable to pick up my own child. That was rock-bottom for me.
I had previously tried every trick in the book, from diets to pills to chronic exercise, yet nothing worked. I couldn’t find anything sustainable, and every time I fell off the wagon, I gained even more weight back. Then I found SmartFit. I began training with them three times per week, thinking I had nothing to lose, yet scared at the prospect of another failed attempt. But this time it was different. The simplicity of the workouts and logic behind the nutrition was something I could understand, and it worked well. I liked the fact that the SmartFit trainers made sure I never felt alone; they were always there to encourage and support me, and whenever I had questions they selflessly offered the answers. I finally found something that I could stick with.
At this point in my journey with SmartFit, I have lost a total of 57 pounds in six months! I have noticed a huge increase in strength, both physically and mentally. I stand taller now and exude confidence, and for the first time in a long time, I can honestly say that I am proud to be the person I am today. Not only can I keep up with my busy life, but I can also keep up with (and easily lift!) my six-year old son. I finally get to be the Mom I always wanted to be, which means more to me than anything. I know I worked hard to get where I am, but I will be forever grateful to SmartFit for showing me the way.

“I walked through the doors of The Smart Fitness personal training center in January 2014 and I had enrolled for the 12 sessions. I have had the immense pleasure of attending each class, the studio has a very different way to offer the classes by instructing both physical exercise and advising a nutrition diet which I found to be a really neat part of the Smart Fit Personal Training. Each class was wonderful to discuss about the dietary system with the instructor while you are exercising, the instructor and the class always offered something different, whether that may be cardio, strength, toning, style, technique or a level of learning. The ability to have those choices has helped me to find what works for my body type and has allowed me to reach several personal fitness goals.
It was impossible to stay focused if I was exercising by myself without instructor. Also, I had major doubts that it could help me reach my next fitness goal …… reducing the ever present belly bulge. I will be the first to gladly admit that I was wrong about Smart Fit and what could be accomplished. In the 12 sessions since I began taking The Smart Fit Personal training class, I am excited to say that I have been able to shed 3″ from my waist, tone up my hips and thighs while dropping an additional 7 pounds! These results would not have been possible without the assistance and direction of The Smart fit personal training instructor Melissa Senum. I found Melissa is a fabulous instructor with her own style and she makes it a priority that the proper technique is used for Smart Fit training, being properly stretched out prior to beginning the routine, & provide modifications when needed in a class that can be experienced by anyone willing to put in the work …… In addition to all, we had a great time doing a “reptilian crawling” exercise- we just had FUN!
As every week passes, I am closer to reaching my latest fitness goal and looking forward to making a new one but I know that my fitness success would not have been possible without support of Smart Fit Personal Training and their vision of providing all of us with Healthy, Happy and Fit life so a very special, heartfelt “Thank you” goes out to the Smart Fit personal Training.”

“My name is Cathy and I’m a 56 year old grandmother with 4 very young grandchildren. When my first grandchild came along 2 1/2 years ago, I was not in the best of health. I was on cholesterol and high blood pressure medication, and was borderline diabetic. I had no energy and I was puffy and overweight. Then I discovered SmartFit and their healthy approach to health and fitness. After listening to their approach, it just made so much sense to me and it sounded like this just might be what I was searching for. It wasn’t easy in the beginning, giving up things I loved like pasta, cereal, and bread but just after a short time of giving up those things I felt so much better. So no processed foods for me, shopping only on the outside of a grocery store and eating things I didn’t think I could eat, like butter and eggs and steak! Soon, I decided to go off all medications and give the lifestyle my full attention — a little scary but I believed.
My last two blood tests were quite remarkable, medications i no longer needed! I feel younger, healthier, and I have no doubt I will be here for a long happy life running around with my beloved grandchildren and just enjoying life to the fullest. A guy mid 30’s, did not want to go down the same path like his family history. Both my Dad and grandfather, passed away of type 2 diabetes and a Heart attack. I would go to bed each night tapping my heart because I ate too much or just be taking a lot of antacids to calm the heartburn down before going to bed. When I lost my dad I stood at a husky 190 lbs and knew of the gym, but like many people work took over, I needed to take care of my family and I became more focused on that instead of trying to remember that I also need to take care of myself once and awhile. I signed up for a Gym membership in November (the one with the expensive Basketball player, you know the one), and I felt intimidated and short changed. The people seemed real snotty and were just out for money. Then over the holidays I was looking at personal trainers on line and I had noticed from a Google search “Smart Fit”. I read the website, and started to chat with Travis (Trainer) over e-mail.
So my journey with SmartFit began in February 2013,1 learned about the proper dieting techniques, best exercises for my weight loss goal, and was introduced to Paleo Bars (great snacks). When I first walked into the SmartFit location, I looked and said where is everything? I told the trainer what my goals were and informed him of my family history and the reason why I wanted to do something for myself and lose this weight. He quoted “Don’t work hard, work smart”. To this current day I am living by this motto. As the first 10 session progressed I realized that you do not need a lot of equipment to get the results. In the end I dropped 9lbs comfortably and I had noticed a change, Boost in energy, and loss of inches in the waist. I looked in the mirror and liked what I saw. As a Bonus, I went to do my blood tests to make sure that I was out of those dangerous ranges for Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Attack. When the doctor had said with the progress you’re making and the results of your blood test you are going to be okay, Keep it up. So I decided to get 20 more on my own and continue this progress.
Now at the end of my progress with Smart Fit, I have lost 20lbs, waist line dropped from 38 to 32 and my body fat is down as well. I had noticed a bigger confidence in myself am wanting to do more for myself health wise. My end goal is going to keep up this healthy lifestyle and participate in 2014 Vancouver’s Concrete Hero Obstacle Course. Would I hire them again…YES!
The trainers at SmartFit, are knowledgeable and are here for your best interest. Sometimes it pays off to go to a gym with people who care about your goals and progress, and remember that bigger is not always better.
